This site offers extensive current and user-friendly GLBT health information on such topics as health news, sex, drugs, emotions, image, food, and fitness.  The Web site also has a link to a care network, as well as a portal specifically for health care providers. The site has several online forums and also offers an e-mail newsletter with current health news for the GLBT community.

 Gay and Lesbian Medical Association

The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) is a nonprofit organization working to end homophobia in health care.  The association (along with a group from Columbia University) has published an extensive summary, available online, of research on health care needs of GLBT patients.  The site provides detailed information on the programs and services GLMA offers, such as a Lesbian Health Fund and a Physician Referral. It also publicizes new findings and information related to GLBT health issues.

 Gender.Org

This national organization focuses on the needs, issues, and concerns of gender-variant people in our society.  The group seeks to educate and advocate for all human beings who suffer from gender-based oppression in any of its many forms.  The Web site provides a handout containing basic tips for health care providers who work with transgender people.

 Healthy Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Students Project

The American Psychological Association launched this Web site to help educate school counselors, nurses, social workers, and psychologists about the specific health needs and risks facing lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth.  The Project focuses on health services, health education, counseling, and psychological and social services, on fostering a healthy school environment, and on family/community involvement.  The site offers a searchable database of 230 scholarly publications, as well as useful links to health organizations and support groups for school staff, LGB youth, and parents.

Lesbian and Gay Aging Issues Network

The Lesbian and Gay Aging Issues Network (LGAIN) works to raise awareness about the concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender elders and about the unique barriers they encounter in gaining access to housing, healthcare, long-term care, and other needed services. LGAIN’s Web site contains myriad articles, videos,  and links to a variety of other resources related to this growing population segment.

LGBThealthchannel.com is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender health information Web site. It serves as an online resource for LGBT community members, allies, and health care providers who want to learn about LGBT health issues. It also enables users to discuss issues in an online forum, or to locate LGBT-friendly providers through a search function. The health education content was developed by Fenway Community Health, a nationally recognized leader in medical and mental health care for the Boston LGBT community. The Web site is managed by Healthcommunities.com, a company committed to providing reliable physician-monitored online education via its consumer Web sites and via Web sites managed for doctors all over the United States.

 National Consortium of Directors of LGBT Resources in Higher Education

This group’s stated mission is to achieve higher education environments in which LGBT students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni have equity in every respect.  Their goals are to support colleagues and develop curriculum, to seek climate improvement on campuses, and to advocate for policy change and program development.  Their Web site offers information and links on campus climate, legal issues, safe zones, and a directory of campuses with LGBT services.

 National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Organization (LLEGO)

LLEGO is the only nonprofit organization whose focus is on Latina/o LGBT communities that are addressing the need to overcome social, health, and political barriers due to sexual orientation, gender identity, and ethnic background.  LLEGO works to develop and obtain access to culturally appropriate health and wellness services for its constituents.  An educational series of Spanish-language videos aimed at promoting preventive care and wellness to Latina lesbians can be ordered through this Web site.

These Web pages are designed to discuss the particular health concerns of the GLBT community and to give health care providers tools designed to ensure that health care environments are welcoming to members of the GLBT community.

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Health Access Project

This project’s stated mission is to strengthen the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s ability to foster the development of comprehensive, culturally appropriate health-promotion policies and health care services for GLBT people through a variety of venues including community awareness, policy development, advocacy, direct service, and prevention strategies. The site is also the source for Community Standards of Practice for Provision of Quality Healthcare Services to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Clients; training and technical assistance to health providers on implementing the Standards of Practice; GLBT health promotion materials; and links to many other GLBT health-related Web sites.

 The Intersex Society of North America (ISNA)

ISNA is devoted to systemic change to end shame, secrecy, and unwanted genital surgeries for people born with an anatomy that someone decided is not standard for male or female.

 The Mautner Project

The Mautner Project is the only national organization dedicated to lesbians with cancer, their partners and caregivers.  Their mission is to provide direct services to lesbians with cancer, their partners, and their caregivers; education and information about cancer to the lesbian community; education to the health care community about the special concerns of lesbians with cancer and their families; and advocacy on lesbian health issues in national and local arenas.  The Web site can be accessed in English and in Spanish.

 The National Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Health

The Coalition is committed to improving the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and communities through public education, coalition building, and advocacy that focuses on research, policy, education, and training.

 Youth Resource

Youth Resource, a project of Advocates for Youth, provides a wide range of information specific to GLBT youth, including the latest news, information on listservs, chat rooms, youth groups, choosing the right schools, and HIV/STDs. This Web site can be viewed in English and in Spanish.
